Catriona XII. Hsinchu, Taiwan

Typhoon Talim hit and passed us by in the early hours today, killing at least two people, injuring 39, and forcing the closure of schools, offices and stock markets. All flights out of CKS were cancelled. No Singapore trip. As Talim has left Taiwan it approaches southern China where nearly 600,000 people are being evacuated.

The above picture is of Catriona who grows more beautiful with each passing day.

More on the mistreatment(abuse) of foreign workers in Taiwan:

Handle our Thai relations carefully.
The mistreatment of Thai workers in Taiwan has kicked up a bit of a storm in society, as well as attracted the attention of the governments of both countries. A few days ago, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra called on Thais to stay home and find work there instead of suffering unfair treatment abroad. Vice President Annette Lu has expressed her apologies for the incident, saying that it has tarnished the international reputation of Taiwan, a country that prides itself on practicing human rights" (found via 2bangkok.com)

From the Information for foreigners website comes a government document containing an outline of the regulations for working in Taiwan.

"Dear foreign friends,
We welcome you to the Republic of China (ROC). Besides our expression of sincere welcome, we would also like to take a moment to cover some important regulations related to foreigners working in Taiwan. We hope your period of employment in Taiwan is smooth and enjoyable."
