I captured this guy on his scooter seconds before he lunged forward with the turning of the light. Drivers here like to lunge forward allot and something you need to look out for if you expect to survive on the streets of Hsinchu. This action can take place in any direction at any time - being on a sidewalk does not guarantee that there will not be traffic to negotiate. There are patterns even amongst chaos and you learn to see recognize and prepare for them.
It looks like I missed a spectacular fireworks display at Taipei 101 on New Years Eve. Beautiful.
