So much for the smiling faces, thee ladies are serious about their patriotism. Apparently the Double Ten's Day parade started at the elementary school across from the Sol Hotel and wound it's way down this side street before heading down towards the circle where the mayor's review stand was placed. Then towards Hsinchu city hall, turning the corner at the old Far East department store building, and ending where it started. A very short route, the point of which I am not completely sure. I suppose if it was longer no one would participate unless they could drive their scooters. This particular small little street. which is about the equivalent of a sidewalk in Toronto, houses the majority of expat. drinking establishments and bicycle stores in Hsinchu. There used to be a nice Thai. noodle shop but like many shop ideas it failed and was immediately replaced by another which failed and so on; such tenacity these business people have.
