Catriona loves to run in her bare feet in the sand and grass leaving me to remember to keep her sandals in tow. With my absent mind lately I'm surprised we didn't leave without them. I'm including a great write-up from HICA again on the area we visited. It's interesting.
"Ching-Tsao Lake (Qincao) (meaning the lake of green grass) used to be a mini-sized lake hundreds of years ago, which was also used as a dam. After the end of the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, the first magistrate of Hsin-Chu County ordered to reconstruct the dam, resulting a 30 square kilometer area for storing water. It was the first large-scale construction in Hsin-Chu since the establishment of the local government.
Although it has been one of the eight greatest scenic places in Taiwan, Ching-Tsao Lake lost its irrigable function due to the sedimentation of soil. The sedimentation also affected the views. Fortunately, in the past few years the Hsin-Chu City Government has been continuously renovating the lake and restoring its original views.
The Hsin-Chu City Government is now actively constructing public facilities in coordination of the natural features of Ching-Tsao Lake, including gardens, bridges, bird-observing track, lake-encircling track, and resting places. These features provide relaxing places to the visitors so they may truly appreciate the views.
Beautiful views of the lake-encircling track are the reason that it is one of the favorite places to the citizens of Hsin-Chu City. In order to enhance the security, the city government has built solar-energy-powered street lamps that would always light up and guide the way for the visitors."
