Gas Meters VII. Hsinchu, Taiwan

I continue my fascination with Taiwan Gas Meters. These interesting rusty devices may soon become relics of another era if Intel gets it's way. Wireless automated devices are making there way into municipal utility data collection.

"Utility meters, SCADA devices, and parking meters have one thing in common – they need to be read regularly. This is normally a personnel intensive process. Fortunately, the convergence of intelligent, digital meters with wireless networking technology means these devices can often now be read remotely, saving human effort, time and cost. When coupled with a city-wide MetroMesh network, these devices can now be read completely automatically, with no human intervention, from one side of the city to the other. The economic benefits of these systems, coupled with the increased accuracy and efficiency these systems allow, create illustrative benefits for municipalities and utility providers."
