There isn't a whole lot of children friendly infrastructure in Hsinchu. There are parks and a small assortment of playgrounds but it's hardly enough for a city of this size. On a rainy weekday the play areas in some of the shopping malls are an ideal destination. Windance has two floors of fun which even includes a rollercoaster which Catriona always wants to ride but at only 2 years old she unfortunately has to wait. Most of the places on a Saturday would be extremely crowded and I have a hard time dealing with the aggressive nature of the way so many children here play. Catriona is so innocent and friendly, always trying to say hello and hug the other kids. Most of the time the other children her age don't react well - I won't conjecture as to why they find her attempts at being friendly so odd.
Having Catriona on a Saturday is pretty special so I decided we might try Green Grass Lake (Ching-Tsao Lake). My memory seems to be failing me as I forgot a key part of the directions. We missed a key turn-off and didn't quite make it. Here are the directions graciously provided by HICA. Don't miss the "Turn left to Ming-Hu Road" portion like I did.
"Starting on Chung-Shan Highway South, exit at Hsin-Chu, and enter Kuang-Fu Road toward Downtown. Turn Left on Nan-Da Road and keep going. Turn left to Ming-Hu Road and keep going (passing Lee-Hsi-Chin Monument on the right)."
